Default Change your oil on time

If you keep your cars oil changed every 3 months or every 3000 miles, you will save gas. The guy at the dealer gives me every 3rd oil change free. I also take both my cars to him.

Me, too. I'm actually a big believer in this and followed it religiously for the first decade of my car's life. I've cut back on driving so much, though, that it's harder to know when I need to take it in.

The major oil manufacturers say that you can actually change your oil every 5,000 miles and you'll be fine. With synthetic oils you can go even further because the molecules don't break down as easily as conventional oil.

Yeah, I have to agree. I started using a full synthetic and I am happy with it. My car has a turbo so I think its worth it.

It's funny that you mention this because I was researching the topic a few weeks ago on the Internet. Apparently, there is no problem going back and forth as there used to be. I'm not an expert in chemistry and how the different oils affect an motor, but if you search the topic on the web, you'll find information saying that it's all right.

I remember hearing this a while back. I am always a little skeptical when the person who stands to make money from providing a service starts telling me how often I should have the service performed!

i will look into that further. when i was told this info, it was several years back, so it would not surprise me if it is ok to switch back and forth.
