Default Fill up

The two hints I've learned about this year are pretty simple. Both relate to the density of the vapors. First is to fill up when it's cooler (this applies more during the summertime) and the second is to keep the tank full, if you can.

Ironically, keeping your tank full actually has a negative effect on your gas mileage because of the weight of the fuel. The more weight a vehicle has to carry, the more gas it takes to move it.

very true tonygun, some people do not take into account the added weight by having a full tank of gas.

due to my hectic schedule, I tend to fill up quite often, so I won't have to stop again and again.

I do know that driving on very low fuel for long periods of time might have a negative effect on your gas pump.

So keep the tank half-full at all times if possible, and between 1/2 and 1/4 for optimum performance, preventing excess wear and tear on the car, but also dropping the weight of the fuel in the car to make for better mileage.

Sounds good to me! *smile*

The heat does not make a difference, neither does keeping your tank full. You might save $1 over the course of a year, but is it really worth it? No.

Keeping your tank full would just add more weight to your car, how would that save any amount of gas?

Do not let your tank run down past a 1/4 though, the sediments at the bottom can clog up your fuel injectors.

I don't see how keeping your tank full would make any difference. I never fill my tank all the way, and I still get great MPG. I usually put in $5 or $10 here and there, $10 gets me through the week in my little nissan.

One point is a real mistake. Don always keep your tank full. Keep it always 3/4th. When heat increase the fuel boggles. it creates pressure which is very dangerous.

These are great tips. I never thought about the temperature when filling up. From now on I will only fill up when it is cooler.
